Blindspot Season 2 Episode 5 “Condone Unthidiest Thefts” was all
about bonding and conflict resolutions.
Jane bonded with Shepherd who helped
even out her haircut, Kurt bonded with Allie over the baby, Patterson and Borden
look to be in a relationship and Kurt and Nas are now a little too friendly for
comfort.
Zapata reveals that she visited
SHDWCAT to ask for his help on deciphering one of the images on Mayfair’s flash
drive. Zapata shares what SHDWCAT told her with Patterson and with it she was
able to figure out one tiny detail from the picture: Mayfair was working with
Douglas Winter. Nas compliments Zapata on her work but is also told that if she
ever shares classified information with a convict, her badge will be taken.
Patterson deciphers one of Jane’s
tattoos and it leads them to the Irish mafia. Allie gets involved in all these
(against Kurt’s wishes) because she used to be childhood friends with one or
two people in the mob. There was an attempted assassination of state Senator Donahue by a man who hid a gun
in his camera and posed as paparazzi – genius idea!. The team was able to
apprehend the perp and traced the weapon to the senator’s cousin and Irish
mafia leader Patrick O’ Malley

Turns out Donahue was actually the one
who put the target on his back and is the real leader of the mob not the dying
man they had in custody. How were they able to find this out? Jane’s super
talking skills of course. Not only did Jane convince him to come clean but she
also managed to convince him to turn over the evidence he had on the mob.
This evidence was stashed in the bank
so Nas, Jane, Allie and Kurt head over there to get it. The strange part is a
unit of about three trained federal agents walks through the front door of bank
with a cuffed wanted man with the words “FBI” screaming from their vests. Then they
get surprised when men from the mob turn up at the bank. Even Patrick’s lawyer
refused to let him into his safe because he looked like he had been taken
hostage. Turned out it was Patrick’s lawyer who tipped off the mafia and not
the team’s very wrong wardrobe choice.
The bank trip turns into a showdown;
the team gets separated and Allie is shot in the leg. She confesses to Jane
that she’s having Kurt’s baby and Jane being Jane puts in more effort to save
her. Patrick sacrificed himself (and most of the evidence) so Jane and Allie
can get away and Jane literally carries Allie over her head.

It's great how much of a badass Jane
is but its sad that the rest of the characters (except her dysfunctional
family) always has to play catch up. It’d be so much better if the show put
Jane’s family on the front burner and the FBI at the back.
Jane and Kurt have a moment when Kurt
thanks her for saving the life of his baby and baby’s mother. There may yet be
hope for these two.
Minus the FBI drama, Jane recalled a
memory of a woman wearing a ring who nursed her back to health and asks Shepherd
about it but the latter is only able to give unsatisfactory answers. So Jane
gives a drawing of the ring to Patterson to help her track but Patterson is unsuccessful.
Shepherd tells Roman that his sister
is recovering her memories but she doesn’t seem too happy about that.
Side note: It appears Jane now lives with her family
While all the drama is going on at the
FBI office, Reade is trying to find answers to his past. He follows Coach Jones
to a store and there grabs the man by the collar to demand an explanation. Honestly
Rob Brown is not doing a great job of portraying his emotions – they all seem
stiff and forced. The store owner calls the cops on Reade before he escapes. Reade
later goes to Jones home which he was seen casing on If Beth and finds a video
tape with his name over it in a secret library.
Zapata gets a call from one of her
pals at the NYPD informing her that Reade was almost arrested for assaulting a
man. She tracks Reade down to Coach Jones home and there we see Reade standing
over what looks like dead Coach Jones.
Did Reade kill his pervert Coach and
what could Shepherd and Roman possibly be hiding?
