They trapped a Ghost Rider! Then things got a
lot weird.
First of all, we get a look at what was probably
Theo’s experience when he was delivered to the Skinwalkers. Theo would wake up
in a morgue, hear an eerie voice calling out to him and then try to run only to
have his heart taken out by his sister then remember the Dread Doctors giving him a heart transplant. This experience was repeated again and
again until Theo’s denial changed into acceptance.
What lies behind the wallpaper!
"Ghosted" ended with Sherriff Stilinski peeling back the wallpaper in his home and cringing. We wondered and theorized on what could be behind that
door – the train station, Canaan? What we did not expect to be behind that door
is Stiles’ room. Not exactly cringe-worthy if you ask me. But you didn’t so
moving on.
Claudia Stilinski walked in on her husband in the
room and she did not look pleased. She claimed the room must have been sealed
off by previous tenants (who lived there over 18 years ago). She also told the
Sherriff outright that she wasn’t willing to consider the possibility of a forgotten
son. So the Sherriff called someone who was more than willing to discuss the possibility.
Coulda
Woulda Shoulda: The plan that could’ve worked
Last
time we saw Theo, he was about to be coyote food
and he’s still pretty much in the same situation when we see him in Heartless. After
the daddy/son quarrel between Liam and Scott about whether or not to use Theo
in their plan, Scott agrees that he will “try anything {to get Stiles back}…
even Theo". Malia however refuses to go with their plan. She has a better idea.
Team Scott's plan involves a lot of Physics talk – basically
they plan to trap a Ghost Rider by using the lightening rod to attract it into the bunker, using Hayden as
bait and then trapping it in a cage which neutralizes electricity and surrounding the cage with a ring of
mountain ash. The plan worked quite easily – except for the part where Theo
nearly lost his arm trying to close the cage against the Rider. The hard part
turns out to be the most important – getting the Rider to talk. It turns out the pack did not consider that part at all when Liam addresses the Rider as "Mr. Rider".
But Mason has that covered – Mason who now has the
superpower of finding Corey even when he’s in camouflage. Mason somehow figured
that during that ridiculous
standoff between Parrish and a Rider, the latter was trying
to communicate with Parrish. So the teenagers send for the Deputy Sheriff who
seems to have nothing better to do than heed the beck and call of a bunch of
teenagers. Parrish arrives and actually succeeds in getting words out of the
Rider – words that seemed more like a mantra – “We are the Wild Hunt. Those who
hunt with us hunt forever”. Does this mean people can opt to hunt with the Wild
Hunt?
The twist comes when the Rider somehow gives Parrish
a command and the latter starts to turn and attempts to break out the Rider.
Theo and Scott have to physically push Parrish out of the room to prevent him
from ruining their plan. The latter ends up running into the dark like a dog
who just misbehaved and is scared of getting a whooping. It seems like the
Riders aren’t scared of Parrish – he’s more like their dog {hound} who they can
order to attack or heel or do tricks. Also, when will Team Scott finally
realize that no form of good help can come of a creature called “hellhound”?
Mr.
Hoptman whatnow?
While Scott and Liam are recovering from touching a
hellhound, Theo is left with the Rider and he gets a somewhat expected visitor –
Mr. Douglas who Theo called “Hoptman” or something that sounds very close to
that. Mr. Douglas (who is now speaking in German accent) threatened to kill Theo
if he doesn’t break the circle of mountain ash. When Theo obeys like a good ol’
boy, weirder stuff happens.
- · Firstly, Mr. Douglas and the Rider recognize each other. (What?)
- · Secondly, the Rider is actually scared of Mr. Douglas. (What??)
- · Thirdly, Mr. Douglas overpowered him, bit into his skull (WHAT???) and then ate his penile gland which looked more like a starfish than a pea. (I’m officially out of dramatic “whats” at this point)
Lydia
figured it out.
Notice how Lydia has been missing in all this
weirdness? Well, she’s still thinking about the dead kid in Canaan. She tells
her mother that Lorraine conjured her dead son to fill the void of the entire
town going missing. Lydia believes that Sherriff Stilinski is doing the exact
same thing with Claudia – using her to fill the void of his missing son. But
Mrs Martin isn’t so convinced. She can see Claudia after all.
Sherriff Stilinksi invites Lydia into Stiles’ room
and says he’s willing to talk about the possibility of him having a son. Lydia
tells the Sherriff her speculation and he says Claudia is “flesh and blood”
while Stiles is “speculation” and “conjecture”.
Lydia sees Stiles’ lacrosse jersey lying on a chair
and picks it up to inhale it. But where Lydia sees bits and pieces of Stiles
lying around, the Sherriff sees an empty room and a “deeply disturbed” girl
holding and sniffing the air. Lydia tells him he’s afraid to remember because
of what it represents – the fact that he forgot his own son and chose to live
with a ghost. Lydia throws him the jersey (which looks like air to the Sheriff)
but when the Sherriff catches it, he can actually see. Looks like he believes
now.
Peter
Hale the Hero
Last
time we saw Peter {and our beloved Stiles}, we weren’t
so sure if he survived that terrible fire. Turns out he did and hasn’t lost his
sarcasm.
Malia visits her father in the hospital and gets the
bad news from Melissa – basically he’s still badly burned and may die anytime
soon. With Malia’s cajoling, Melissa admits that she has a plan that could possibly
end with Peter dead. Malia’s response was “what does he have to lose?”.
We get the answer to the question of why the "nine
herbs" which healed Chris Argent in "Ghosted" hasn’t been used till that episode – probably because
the Argents didn’t want it to be used to heal psychopath werewolves like Peter
Hale – which is exactly what Melissa used it for. After the unbearable pain
that comes with forceful healing, Peter is looking as handsome as ever – he
even managed to grow back all his hair!
Malia takes him to the spot where they found Peter
in the hopes of finding the gate and going through to rescue Stiles, who she
described as her “anchor”. While they are there, Peter starts to hear the sounds
associated with the arrival of Ghost Riders and tells Malia to run while he waits to give her a chance to escape. Someone is finally stepping into his fatherly shoes - a little late but still. Peter prepares for a fight but to Peter's surprise, the Riders abruptly turn back. Most likely
because their kin was getting eaten by a Nazi alpha werewolf and they were
not about to willingly suffer similar fate.
Goodbye
Corey.
Mr. Douglas who now has fancy green eyes (instead of
the red deemed for an alpha) and a fancy new rope, wastes no time using the
rope on a very surprised Corey who promptly disappears. Its starting to look
like Mr. Douglas is the true villain of the Final Season.
Questions.
- Does Mr Douglas steal a person’s power by eating their penile gland?
- What exactly does he plan to do with Corey and all the others he will no doubt erase?
- If Claudia wanted to effectively hide the existence of Stiles’ room, why not seal it with an actual wall before fixing wallpaper?
- Exactly how much of Stiles and Peter do Scott and his team remember?
- What will Scott do with the gun he managed to get off the Rider?
