The original Pretty Little Liars had us by the scruff of our necks with the identity of "A" and now there's a new A in town.

Implied by the name, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin follows a new set of liars who are hunted by A not for their own sins but for the sins of their parents two decades ago. While the identity of A is a mystery just like in the original Pretty Little Liars, it's not the mystery.

There's a lot of weird stuff going on in the town of Millwood that the identity of A kind of takes the back burner - one of the liars, Imogen (played by Bailee Madison) is very pregnant, the Sheriff is extremely suspicious and even more menacing than A and one of the liars is definitely spying on butts in the male locker room.

The high school setting is a lot different from what we're used to seeing on TV because there's no food chain, no queen b in charge and every high school boy on the show is either nauseatingly nice or very creepy. Although it's insinuated that Karen (Mallory Betchel) is the HBIC, no one seems to respect her much and everyone snaps back at her - including the meek and reserved highschooler called... Mouse (played by Malia Pyles).

Initially, I had reservations about the new liars since they were more a reaction to A's antics than a connection of deep bonds but they held on okay - maybe not as convincing as Spencer and her gang but the new liars are somewhat likeable.

Original Sin is set in 2022 and uses a lot of slang and internet lingo like saying "IRL" irl but the wardrobe is more early 2000s and not very covet-worthy.

TL:DR

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and while there's a chance that Original Sin will go down the same road of what-the-fuck-ism that Riverdale went down after the first two seasons, the first season of PLL Original Sin is a fun watch. Expect a few surprises and a few references to Riverdale and the Pretty Little Liars.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is currently streaming on HBO MAX and  has been renewed for a second season
