Breakups, makeups, hookups, death threats, love confessions and so much more
Annalise
is off her game – and eating a lot of chips
Annalise’s suspension has been lifted but it comes
with strings – she is to check into AA meetings three times a week, subject
herself to random alcohol tests and refrain from harassing and intimidating
witnesses in court. All these prove to be a little difficult for Annalise as
she’s eating a lot of chips and is several steps off her game in court when she
goes against Nate’s new beau Atwood.
Annalise is still mad at Bonnie for screwing her
over by meeting with Frank at Coalport but it turns out Bonnie was recording
the conversation with Frank. She has Frank on tape confessing to the Mahoney
murder. Annalise says they can’t use the recording because if they turn in
Frank, he will spill his guts to the police. Annalise’ logic is so obvious that
it’s something Bonnie should have been able to figure out – she is a lawyer
after all.
The police got an anonymous tip telling them to look
into Wes for the murder of Wallace Mahoney. Annalise thinks it’s Frank trying
to screw with them and orders Wes to stay at her house and not talk to the cops
until they figure out why the cops want to speak with him. Wes is being
stubborn and tries to walk out of the house when Annalise says “You take
another step and I’ll chain you in the basement like Rebecca”.
Bonnie
loves Annalise
Bonnie is trying to help Annalise on her new case
and with Wes but Annalise is still quite mad at her. She wants to know why
Bonnie keeps coming back and Bonnie says “because I love you”. Annalise seemed
to calm down a little at this but tells Bonnie to go home. She later calls on
Bonnie for help with the Legal Clinic case and it seems like all is now well
between these two.
Laurel
gets shunned, Connor threatens Wes
In a bid to build trust in an otherwise distrustful
group, Annalise calls the Keating Five and tells them all about Mahoney – he being
Wes’s biological father. The others (Connor mostly) are mad at Laurel for not
telling them this little secret so they refuse to let her sit beside them in
court.
Connor visits Wes at Annalise’ and after making a
Norman Bates reference, he tells Wes that everything is his fault (including
his break up with Oliver) and says to him “if you mention my name to the
police, I swear to God, I will kill you”.
So much for friendship.
Asher
and Michaela break up and make up.
Asher finally realizes that he is in a relationship
alone and is still just a “meatstick” to Michaela. When she refuses to give him
the boyfriend tag, he breaks up with her and walks out. Can’t really break up
with someone you were never dating but okay.
For the rest of the episode, Asher talks endlessly
about a hot new blonde he met on Tinder “Heidi”. When Michaela calls him out on
his imaginary girlfriend, he asks her why she’s not jealous and Michaela hints
that she’s been used by men in her life (her gay fiancĂ©e, Rebecca’s stalker
brother, killer and dead ex Caleb) and is not doing that again. Asher calls
Michaela his family and this touches her in the right spot as she has no
family. She ends up saying to him “I like you” and for Michaela, that’s like
saying “I’ll kill for you”.
In
other news, Wes breaks up with Meggy and hooks up with Laurel.
Meggy has been worried about Wes since the cops
showed up at his apartment and she wanted to know why Wes didn’t tell her
someone was shot in front of him. Wes says he didn’t say because he wanted her
to like him and her response was “maybe not at first but we tell each other
everything”. Oh Meggy, your poor sweet girl.
She wants Wes to call a lawyer instead of hiding out
in Annalise’s house and when she becomes insistent, Wes says “I’m too much for
you”. She believes Wes is just pushing her away but when he seems insistent
about their breakup, she confesses that she loves him by saying the three magic
words. Wes looks touched by this but doesn’t change his mind.
After being threatened by Connor, Wes took the
recording to Laurel’s and destroyed it. He comes up with a plan that protects
them and Frank but Laurel says she doesn’t want to protect Frank. (She had left
a voicemail for Frank earlier saying if he turned Wes in, she will not forgive
him). She and Wes kiss – a very impassionate kiss – and when Wes says he and
Meggie are broken up, they go inside for some bedroom action.
So Wes maybe the father of Laurel’s child?
It’s worth mentioning that after waiting endlessly
for the Laurel/Wes hookup, it finally came and was far from impressive. Asher
and Michaela’s bathroom hookup seemed much more intense.
Wes
is in the clear.
Frank who seems to be everyone’s avenging angel this
season framed Wallace Mahoney’s son for his father’s murder by planting the gun
(along with his fingerprint) in the trunk of his car. In one stroke, Frank
cleared his name, Wes’ name and redeemed himself in Annalise’ and Laurel’s
eyes. After planting the gun, we see Frank driving towards Philadelphia. Bonnie
did say he just wanted to come home.
So maybe he did and he and Laurel had some makeup
sex before the accident?
Flash
forward
Connor and Wes are the only two of the Keating Five unaccounted for.
Michaela was worried that Asher might be the body under the sheet and went
looking for him at his dorm. She later found him drunk and he revealed that
Annalise invited him, Connor and Laurel to her house possibly hours before the
fire. Something sees off.
Memorable
quotes & moments
Connor to Drake: “Ready to fail? Like your dad’s
condom?”
Connor to Asher “I’ll spoon you buddy”.
Asher square-dancing to "Cotton Eye Joe"
PS: Does anyone else think President Hargrove has a
thing for Annalise?
