Everyone in Alexandria wants Negan dead. No surprise
there.
Last time we saw Carl, he was riding in the back of the sweet truck of
half-baked plans and on his way to kill Negan. Luckily for him, he had Jesus
for company. Jesus guessed that the truck was nearing the Saviors camp so he
suggested that they jump out and find their way on foot. Carl after pretending
to be scared of the idea of jumping from a moving truck agrees but says Jesus
has to jump first. Jesus does and Carl waves him goodbye.
When the truck finally slows to a stop, Carl picks a
gun from the supplies and hides behind the boxes. One of the saviors spots him
and Carl starts shooting. He steps to the edge of the truck and says "I only
want Negan… no one else needs to die”. Quite confident for a young man who is
facing a handful of armed people. Lucky for him, Negan thinks he’s “badass” and
amused by him so he chooses to keep Carl alive for his entertainment.
He takes Carl on a tour of the place and we see that
Darryl
is still on fence duty. Negan takes Carl to meet his wives and there are at
least a dozen women in the room – all wearing LBDs. He gives Carl permission to
ogle his wives breasts and goes to talk to Sheryl – who is apparently the queen
of wives as she looks to be the only one who can speak her mind to him. She even
calls Negan an “asshole” right before they share a passionate kiss. Negan wants
to know about Amber (one of his wives) and Mark who apparently have been
sneaking around together. After a tiny amount of pressure from Negan, Sheryl
acknowledges the tryst by saying “go easy on her, she made a mistake”. Negan
has a talk with his crying wife Amber and says she can leave if she wants to
but he will not abide cheating by any of his wives. He tells Dwight to heat the
iron and takes Carl to his master bedroom.
At this point, Carl is a little worried about why
Negan is keeping him alive. Negan tells Carl that he killed two of his men and
should sing him a song. Carl sings “You’re My Sunshine” by Johnny Cash while
Negan swings Lucille frightfully close to Carl’s head. After the song, he tells
Carl that he feels like he’s talking to a “birthday present” and Carl should
unwrap his gift (eye). Carl’s confidence suddenly comes back and he says no but
Negan insists. Carl unwrapped his eye and what is beneath is not a pretty sight
– all that’s there is a few strands of tissue. Negan laughs at his appearance,
calls it “disgusting” and says he can see his eye socket. When Carl starts to
cry, Negan apologizes and says its easy to forget that Carl is just a kid. Looks
like there’s a softer side to Negan.

But that thought is short-lived as minutes later, we
see him burning the side of Mark’s face until the man soils himself and passes
out. Negan calls him a “pussy” and tells all watching the punishment to follow
rules as he would not like to repeat the procedure again.
Meanwhile, at Alexandria, Father Gabriel and Spencer
are going for a supply run at the same time Rosita and Eugene are leaving
Alexandria. Spencer offers that they go together but Rosita declines saying she’s not getting
supplies for Negan. In the car, Spencer
is still whining about how much he hates Rick, how everything is Negan’s fault
and he can do a much better job of leading. He also tells the priest that he
wishes Rick “never makes it back”. Father Gabriel calls Spencer an asshole for
saying that; says a few nice words about Rick and exits the car.
Speaking of Rick, he is still on a supply run with Aaron
and it looks like their side of the world is running out of food because they haven’t
found anything. Kind of like
Heath and Tara. They later come upon a place with possible supplies and
ammunitions – but that place is in the middle of a river and there are walkers
circling around like undead shark.
Turns out Rosita and Eugene are not looking for
supplies, just bullets. She wants Eugene to make her bullets but the latter is
reluctant and says the words everyone at Alexandria needs to hear – “Abraham
was right, they have the numbers”. He goes on to tell her that even if she
succeeds in killing or injuring Negan, someone will “pay the price”. Rosita
foolishly says she’s willing to pay the price but we know she won’t be the one
to pay if she fails. Remember
Glenn anyone? She calls Eugene a bunch of hurtful words and says he owes
her and Abraham so he should make the bullets. Eugene gives in to her and makes
her bullets. You recall Rosita found
an empty gun on a walker. Now that she has bullets, what exactly does she
plan to do? Hopefully she comes up with a better plan than Carl.

It’s starting to look like Carl has dual
personalities – one minute he’s a badass one-eyed cowboy wielding a rifle, the
next minute he’s crying and unsure if Negan wants to kill him. At the moment,
Carl is back to his confident self and he tells Negan to “jump out of the
window” to save him the trouble of killing him. He goes on to tell Negan that
he wouldn’t kill him or his father or Darryl. It looks like Negan has gone so soft;
everyone at Alexandria is forgetting he’s a psychopath. During this
conversation, Negan revealed that he plans to make a soldier out of Darryl and
Rick is a good errand boy who gets him supplies.
After their little chat, Negan decides to go on a
drive with Carl. He tells Darryl that he’s taking Carl home. On getting to
Alexandria, he meets Olivia and makes fat jokes. Olivia is hurt by his words
and Negan apologizes. He actually apologized! Right before telling her it would
be “pretty enjoyable” to “screw” her brains out. Olivia slaps Negan across the
face but Negan is in a pretty good mood this day so he lets that slides and
asks her to make him lemonade.
Negan tells Carl to give him a tour of the place and
he stumbles on Judith who he calls an “angel” and immediately takes a liking
to. He tells Carl that maybe he will kill him and Rick and bury them in the
flower bed and stay back at Alexandria. Whichever way it is, it looks like he
might end up taking Judith.
Spencer is the real hero of the day as he manages to
find a walker with a note in Latin detailing where to get supplies. He found
food and fire flares. But most importantly, he found food. And he plans to hand
it all over to the Saviors because that’s “what Rick wants”
Michonne has used dead walkers to form a ridge on
the road – but she has a plan. Her plan is to take one of the Saviors hostage
and force them to take her to Negan. Her plan works. But what would have
happened if a group of saviors rather than just one had driven by? Meanwhile at
the Saviors camp, Darryl gets a note and key slid under his cell door. The note
says “go now”. Who wants Darryl to escape? Jesus? Or is it another trap?
