An all-round weird episode. Plus, Theo and Mrs. Yakamura make a comeback.

The last time we saw Scott and Lydia, Stiles had told them to find the mysterious town called Canaan. When Ghosted picks off, Lydia is washing her hands in a somewhat filthy bathroom when a woman appears in the mirror opposite her. This woman (Lenore) walks away and Lydia follows her through the mirror – Chronicles of Narnia style.

The place Lydia emerges, there seems to be some sort of picnic going on and the banner says “Canaan Day”. Right before Lydia’s eyes, everyone starts to disappear in clouds of green smoke until there’s just one woman left – Lenore. Lydia walks up to Lenore who looks like she’s about to scream – but Lydia beats her to the punch.

The next time we see Lydia, she’s narrating what she saw to Malia who clarifies that Lydia’s vision was a dream by asking “do you ever have nice dreams?” Lydia declares that they all have to go to Canaan but Malia is a little reluctant because the only map that shows Canaan is 30 years old and no one is answering her calls to City Hall. Like that isn’t enough of an omen, the three drive down to Canaan.

Meanwhile, Layden is still working the angle of their bizarre plan to catch a Ghost Rider” and creepy Mr. Douglas is eavesdropping on their conversation with his super hearing. This plan however requires that they break into the faculty storage room. In the storage room, they find Mr. Douglas who acts really surprised to see them and is able to fool them that he’s also cluelessly looking for a way to stop the Ghost Riders. Layden let him in on their plan – which he tweaks a little. Their new plan involves “absorbing a lightning bolt” but Mr. Douglas can’t build a conduit to absorb that much energy (5 billion jules). Lucky for the three, Liam has a crazier idea which involves the dead chimera Josh.

Here comes Theo

Layden head down to the bunker and there we see an old face – Mrs. Yakamura – who is even more dramatic than the last time we saw her. She comes bearing Kira’s sword and a warning that whatever comes of their plan with the sword is theirs to bear. Unperturbed by Mrs. Yakamura’s words, Liam strikes the sword into the ground and the person who rises is the last person who went down by the sword – Theo.

The thing is; Theo isn’t in a helping mood and threatens to kill them all - until Liam threatens to send him back into the ground. During their not-s0-friendly reunion with Theo, a lot was revealed. Firstly, Theo no longer possesses any of the power he stole – which was the reason they brought him back. Secondly (and undoubtedly the most important), he remembers Stiles (queue the collective gasps). He also remembers Mr. Douglas from the incubator in the Dread Doctor’s den and he knows about the Ghost Riders because the Dread Doctors knew of them – or knew they were coming to Beacon Hills. Layden decide to let him stay among the living for his potential usefulness.

Chris Argent isn’t doing so well.

In Relics, Argent got injured trying to protect ungrateful teenagers from Ghost Riders. His wounds are worse off than we thought – they are oozing greenish smoke and Argent is convinced that if he goes into surgery like the doctors suggest, he will die. Melissa sneaks him from his hospital room to somewhere more private and there tries to find another solution. Argent suggests that Melissa mixes nine herbs which counteract nine venom. Sounds easy but the catch is – one tiny mistake and the herbs could become lethal and Chris only knows the herbs in Celtic.

None of that stops Melissa as she succeeds in not only deciphering and getting the herbs but in healing Argent’s wounds. Question is; why hasn’t this super-helpful herb mixture being used before?

Lots of weird stuff going down at Canaan.

Scott, Malia and Lydia have arrived at Canaan and asides from the fact that it’s an actual Ghost town that has been abandoned for nearly 30 years , there were other strange things going on in the town.

  • ·         Malia saw a vision of her dead mother and sister lying on the floor. Like that’s not weird enough, Theo appears and shoots her so she can join her dead family.
  • ·         Scott saw a vision of his mother in her scrubs – with a chunk missing from her head.
  • ·         Lenore is still alive and in Canaan. With a little boy called Caleb who wants playmates.

Asides from the fact that they all nearly died from their encounter with Lenore – because she and Caleb wanted them to stay in Canaan forever; the reason Lenore was left behind is revealed – she’s a banshee. And banshees get left behind. Their Canaan encounter makes one wonder; is that what Stiles expected them to find? And how exactly did he know of Canaan? The three head back home and a very angry Scott and an even angrier Malia finds Theo in Scott’s living room.

Still on the mystery of Late Mrs. Claudia Stilinski.

Scott told Sheriff Stilinski about their discovery that Stiles is real but the Sherriff isn’t that easily swayed. Maybe because accepting that Stiles exist would be to accept that he had a son and then forgot about him. We however see that his faith was a little shaken when he’s reading up on frontotemporal dementia. Afterwards he walks past the torn wallpaper and hears a whooshing sound. Being a detective and all, he steps back and did precisely what Lydia tried to do – see what is behind the wallpaper. And whatever it was made him cringe.

What do you think is behind the wallpaper? Also, how do we explain the presence of Caleb in Canaan? Are banshees somehow capable of anchoring ghosts?
