Apparently it’s possible to be part man, part wolf
and part lion (a Lowenmensch) and that wasn’t the most surprising detail
of this episode.
Hauptman
Thanks to Theo’s “relationship” with the Dread
Doctors, he gives Liam, Hayden and Mason a quick background on Mr. Douglas, the
Nazi alpha werewolf. He was a soldier in World War II who was convinced that he
could conquer the world by simply conquering the Ghost Riders. But when he gets
to the rift and actual Ghost Riders show up, Hauptman’s army is defeated and he
runs for his life with a gash on his back (a gash caused by the Rider’s rope).
Hauptmann continued searching for a way to conquer
the Riders until he came across 3 scientists who he thought could help him (the
Dread Doctors). The tricky part of this story is when Theo claims that the gash
caused by the rope never healed and when the Doctors put him inside that
incubator, the “wound mixed with the fluid from the vat” which he absorbed for
70 years and it somehow made him
stronger – and gave him the power of a Ghost Rider.
To summarize, Hauptmann is part human, part wolf,
part lion and part Ghost Rider. And he is a more ambitious version of Theo with
his goal of assembling an army of super naturals.
Theo however did not give this information in the
spirit of team work. Liam had to break Kira’s sword to get him to talk – which I
think was kind of a stupid idea.
Papa
Argent and Mama McCall are definitely dating.
The duo are on a trail (of who knows what) when
Hauptmann shows up and promises to kill Papa Argent if they don’t take him to
the Hellhound – which they do. And that
relieved embrace between Chris and Melissa definitely said it all. Parrish
is in that weird incubator Grandpa Argent put him and Hauptmann has is back to Chris
which gives him the opportunity to get his shotgun {which probably contains wolfs
bane bullet} and shoot Hauptmann. Unknown to Argent, Hauptmann is not just a
werewolf and as such quickly bounces back and is eager to use his shiny rope on
Papa Argent and Mama McCall.
When the two are out of the way, he faces Parrish,
changes his eye color (to green), says a few words in German, cracks his whip and when Parrish
opens his eyes, his eyes are green. Is that
really how easy it is for him to take control? Yikes!
Goodbye
Mason, goodbye Hayden.
Layden and Mason are in the Sheriff's station trying
to figure something out when a Rider shows up and strangles Mason from
existence. Liam gets so mad, he attacks the Rider and for a second, it actually
looked like he was winning – until he was not. Hayden is caught by one of the
Rider’s ropes and even though she and her strong werewolf beau valiantly hold
on to the rope, another Rider shows up and Hayden decides to give Liam a getaway
chance by sacrificing herself.
Scott
is “going to bite Stiles”.
Thanks to Peter’s Intel; Malia, Scott and Lydia now
know that no human can go through the rift so Scott plans to get through, bite
Stiles, get him out and get him to come up with the plan. Obviously, there are
lots of things wrong with this plan (as Peter points out). What happens if
Scott can’t get through the rift? What if instead of becoming a werewolf,
Stiles dies? What if “there is not Beacon Hills to come back to”? Peter decides
that he doesn’t like the plan and advises the three to “run like hell” before
leaving them.
After standing on the spot they found Peter for a
few seconds, they find out that the rift is under them so they go under where
Malia literally stumbles upon the rift. Now that they have found the rift, they
have no way to get in due to that protective barrier that can melt steel.
While they are mulling on this, Hauptmann shows up
with his newly adopted stray dog and offers them a deal. They all want to go in
and he has a way in. But Liam promptly shows up and informs them that Hauptmann
is a Nazi who wants a supernatural army. Scott then decides that Hauptmann is a
bad guy and as such will “not let him pass”. Which is a little awkward seeing
as Hauptmann is a Lowenmensch with a Ghost Rider’s rope and a Hellhound for
guard dog. Hauptmann scares them with his rope in a few seconds, Parrish opens
the rift and the two go in. Team Scott tried to go in after them but the rift
disappeared and out came two Ghost Riders.
Scott and Malia soon discover that the Riders are
not there to erase them but to kill them. Why? Maybe because Hauptmann now
controls them and he wants those insolent kids dead or the Riders simply do not
like Scott’s face. Scott and Malia are able to get out alive because Peter once
again plays the hero by distracting the Riders and promptly disappearing in a
puff of green smoke – again!
Lydia and Liam are also able to escape due to the
disturbing fact the Ghost Riders are scared of Lydia – something Lydia later
referred to as “reverence”.
#RememberStiles
Sheriff Stilinski is able to remember Stiles when
he finds the rope and pins from his crime board and starts obsessively working
on it. While he’s doing that, Stiles’ things start to appear and he quickly
runs to tell his wife. “We have a son” he says. But Claudia sees nothing in the
room and the Sheriff's conviction falters. But his memories have come back to
him and he realizes that he doesn’t remember activities with his wife from the
previous years and years before that. With that, he is able to accept the fact
that his wife is truly not real and loses her once again in a very emotional
couple of seconds. The movement of something behind him distracts him from his
grief.
Meanwhile, Scott and his pack have returned and the
Alpha is repeatedly dialing his mother’s number which a recording keeps telling
him does not exist. Scott is feeling a little defeated as they (Liam, Malia,
Scott and Lydia) is all that’s left in Beacon Hills (or so they think) and they
can’t exactly hide from the Riders.
But new hope comes in form of Sheriff Stilinski who
tells them that he remembers Stiles whose real name is Mieczyslaw Stilinski (sounds like Michislav) and little Stiles couldn’t pronounce it for a
long time and resigned to calling it "Mischief".
The Sherriff tells them about Stiles always getting into trouble and they wouldn't all be there if Stiles hadn't dragged Scott into the woods to look for a dead body. More importantly, he mentioned that when he
remembered Stiles, he thought he saw him for a moment. Scott believes that a
portal opened momentarily before the Sheriff and for them to open a portal,
they have to remember everything about Stiles.
Looks like Stiles is the key to this Wild Hunt nightmare
Weirder
than Lowenmensch
Is anyone a little bothered that no one seems to be
forgetting the disappeared as earlier suggested? Scott clearly still remembers
his mother and Liam remembered Mason after he disappeared – enough to get angry
and fight for him.
Also, wouldn’t completely remembering Stiles prove a
tad awkward for Malia and Lydia? Except of course they go with the explanation
that Malia and Stiles never really loved each other but were more of each other’s
rocks. She, being the only one who believed him in Eichen and he staying with
her despite her initial lack of humanity.
What about Theo? Is he still a sitting duck in the
cell or has he somehow managed to escape?
What did you think of the episode? Is Stiles’ real
name what you expected? Sound off in the comment
