Color me confused.
Watching TV these days has become stressful. Gone
are the glorious days when we turned on the TV to relax, feel at ease and maybe
laugh a little. Now, all shows seem to be trying to attain is to make
you go crazy in your head trying to figure stuff out. It’s almost like Hollywood
TV Creators had a meeting and came to a consensus
It’s becoming harder to surprise these folks see. So how bou’ we confuse them into believing they’re entertained.
I’m gonna go ahead and name three TV shows that have
had me say “wait what”, pause, rewind, Google and repeat the cycle over and
over:
The OA
First on my list has got to be The OA – and if
you’ve seen the show, you should know why. What started out as a “missing
person returned” situation became a whole different issue in about 3 episodes and
I was lost and mildly entertained. Three major questions I had while watching
the show and after watching it:
i.
What the fork kind of name is “The OA”?
ii.
And what is all that “movement”? Episode
8 had to be the most confusing forty-something minutes of my life. If you have
to go through all that crazy-eyes-pantomime-ballet to uncork your power, then
maybe – just maybe – it’s not worth it. Ya know?
iii.
Did she or did she not make all that
stuff up? One minute, The OA’s merry bands of worshippers believe it was all
make-believe, the next minute they’re dancing their adolescence - and old age - away in a high
school cafeteria.
iv. Lastly, if all she needed was to get shot, then
why not just take a gun and pop it while the weird dance is going on? Why go
through all of that?
Yes I’m very aware that I listed 4 reasons when I
said I had just 3. But that’s exactly what the show is like. Makes you believe
in one thing and the next minute, its throwing it in your face and mocking you
for believing in the first place.
What’s more mind bugging is; people seem REALLY into the show.
Mr. Robot
If I told you I understood any of what happened in second season of Mr. Robot , I’d be lying through my
teeth. All I know for sure is that someone got shot. Each episode left me more
confused than the former and by the end of the season I had more questions than
answers.
Is any of it
real? Just how involved is this cross-dressing Asian minister? Why is Angela
always in the middle of things? Is Tyrell real? What powers-that-be is truly
behind F Society’s original agenda?
I’m breaking out in hives.
Legion
Legion started out quite simply; on the one hand, we
have a schizophrenic who may not really be schizophrenic but just a powerful
mutant. On the other hand, we may have a schizophrenic who is a really powerful
mutant. Simple enough right? Then began the constant and endless memory travels and alternate
realities and somewhere in the second or third episode, I got lost in one of
those realities. (I’m most likely the guy with the yogurtish spit dropping unchecked from his mouth. We may just discover its hours and hours of
complicated TV that got him there).
Worst of all,
what we believe to be real may actually be a much edited version of David’s
memory (Hello Mr. Robot). Edited by whom? That’s the supposed big mystery. I’m
not very bothered by that. My mystery happens to be an initial harmless
character who has turned out to be the main protagonist – Lenny.
-
If there was no Lenny but only Benny,
then who on earth did Sydney kill in that mental home? Also, if Lenny died,
and only lives in David’s head, how was Amy able to see her?
-
Is King also one of David’s many other
consciousness? Can he even be? I mean – he’s just a dog. Right?
Dear TV creators, this has to stop. I’m just trying
to watch TV – not solve some really jumbled up puzzles with faded images.
There’s a reason I flunked all pseudo-deep courses.
Guys, if you have other shows that have confused the
sheet out of you, leave them in the comment section so I can steer clear. If you
have answers to any of the questions asked, be a darl and help a pal.
