The smile on my face on the 19th of March was overwhelming. After much anticipation, Season 2 finally arrived. I couldn't be more psyched. These are my thoughts of the season so far.
I expected more but I am so sad Season 2 is over, I just want to keep watching. I enjoyed every episode, I mean who wouldn't? So we found out how unforgiving the River King is; seeing as he sold Sunny. I was grateful for the introduction of Bajie - the show was in need of a comic relief with all the seriousness going on. Even though he was scum in the beginning, he turned out to be a great ally to Sunny after all and Sunny needed that. The big shocker: Quinn is alive, Tilda saved the widow (well I expected that).
The Fairytale
Our not so favorite couple with their blonde hair shinning so bright have moved on from Quinn and are enjoying their freedom, Ryder seems to be battling with self worth like always, but they had it going on well for five months until the evil stepmother/witch (The Widow) decided to bring the fight to them. The fight was a big disappointment; not even one person was a match for The Widow.
M.K is on the road to self discovery in the Monastery, with a bad ass fighter as his master. After much persistence he gets an audience with her and thanks to disobedience, finds out the ugly truth of what really happened to his mother. But we were repeatedly told not to trust the Mirror so M.K might really not be a black-eyed mummy-murdering-son-of-a-gun. Fingers crossed.
"You miss me?"
Jade is justifiably mad at the death of her beloved, Lydia is back to mourn her precious son and is bent on avenging her son by killing her husband. Turns out Quinn is always prepared; all it took to defeat her was a kiss! After the rigorous preparation and let's kill that son of a bitch speech. Disappointing. Thanks to the explosives used in trying to disarm Jade and Lydia’s squad, Veil is finally able to escape and seeks sanctuary at the Widow's.

The Survivor and the Damsel that Keeps Getting Traded
Turns out Minerva had other plans for Veil and is a little peeved Veil tried to turn her daughter against her . Although, in Veil's defense, she gave Tilda a choice. She didn't explicitly say to her to kill her mother, she just saw what every other clear-thinking person saw; the Widow using her Butterflies as Clippers; just with a little more freedom and luxury. Veil is traded back to Quinn as a token of goodwill on the alliance formed by the widow and Quinn. So much for women empowerment. I still love her though. She is a survivor; Destiny Child's Survivor should be her ringtone - if she ever gets a phone.
M.K. finally makes a sweet, easy escape from the Monastery only to discover that he has lost his powers and the abbots are searching for he and his friend (Ava )who chose to join on the escape. Their paths luckily cross with Sunny and Bajie and can I just say I really love the loyalty between M.K and Sunny. Obviously there was a fight, M.K lost his friend, Sunny was rendered unconscious but they won the fight so yeah. Against all odds, they manage to save Sunny and continue their journey to the Badlands.
Sidenote: When are we going to talk about that candyland-themed-room where Ava lost her life and Sunny nearly died?
Sting of the Scorpion's Tail
For me, 2x08 (Sting of the Scorpion's Tail) was a game changer. Desires were revealed, new alliances made and old ones questioned. Kind of iffy that Veil is blaming Tinkerbell for not killing the Widow when she was the one who saved Quinn - who if you ask me is the greater of both evils. The birth of Tilda’s doubt is well-timed, Quinn's absurd plan of marrying Veil is no less Quin than you'd expect. The reunion between Sunny and the Widow was pleasant. Both of them fighting together, against Choo’s clippers gave me chills. Tilda and M.K smiling like lost but found puppies. Who else thinks Tilda will be a bad ass in the latter seasons of into the badlands. I DO!
Mother
This Season, the widow was the one making all the bad choices.. How can you have two regents and not listen to one? She must have known that Sunny find will never forgive her for trading Veil so she decided to turn on him. Shortly after that, she's having a duel with Tilda and that scene was so heart wrenching. We all love the Widow; the idea of a mother figure protecting her butterflies and fighting for the rights of women. But that scene conformed Veil's theory that Minerva is a predator. Predictably, Tilda got her ass handed to her. As much as I hated that scene, I loved how well Emily Beecham was able to project every emotion The Widow was feeling during the fight.
The Finale
The reunion between Veil and Sunny was not an easy one but it was worth the wait and that kiss between them nearly melted my heart. On the ther hand, Bajie's fight was completely hilarious. A little unnerving how Quinn absolutely refused to die but even more so that Sunny failed to learn his lesson and Veil paid for it with her life. If you want to kill a man like Quinn, don't just stab him and walk away. Decapitate him. Completely.
Just my thought: The formed alliance between Minerva and Waldo leaves a sour taste in my mouth, I like Waldo but we all know he is loyal to only himself and maybe Sunny. Watch out Widow!
Questions on my mind
- Bajie what have you done?
- What is the widow’s plan for M.K seeing that we discovered that her love for him is actually a ruse to get her powers back?
- What's next for Tilda?
