Let's be real, this show is getting canceled after Season 1
Fam, a CBS sitcom that premiered in January 2019, is supposed to be about a perfect young lady marrying into a perfect family and everything is just, perfect until her wayward 16-year-old sister comes along and turns her whole life upside down. This on its own sounds like an interesting plot except that in this case, it's really not.

Let's take each of these elements one at a time:

The 16-year-old (Shannon played by Odessa Adlon) apparently makes bad choices and goes around doing cool teenage stuff like saying 'fam' instead of 'family' - does anyone ever say this?! -  smoking weed and leaving dirty dishes everywhere.

Ideally, this girl should be the highlight, the mini-wildcard of this show but every move she makes is predictable and cliche. Like her penis jokes.

The perfect parents: We're talking froyo nights, weekly family dinners, and lame jokes being told by the perfect dad (played by Brian Stokes Mitchell) and there is absolutely no twist - no skeletons in the closet - except that the dad often gets scammed and the mother a.k.a. The Mum Who Tries to be Cool but Really Isn't (played by Sherryl Lee Ralph) keeps saying STDs instead of Save the Dates.  Why would I want to watch this?

The wildcard dad: Freddy (played by Gray Cole) is supposed to be a deadbeat father who chose to sleep around and not pay any attention to his kids for no absolute reason. He lets his daughters do whatever they want and Shannon not only has a drug dealer boyfriend but dropped out of high school for months under the pretense that she was on Christmas break.

You expect some sad but funny backstory on why he's that way (kind of like Barney and the gaping emptiness in his chest) but once again, I expected too much.

The perfect good looking couple - Nick and Clem (played by Toni Bell and Nina Dobrev) are the newly engaged couple who have their perfect life ahead of them. That is until Nick finds out Clem lied pretty much about her entire life.

How does he react? He forgives her almost immediately. I mean come on guys, this is story gold.  But it gets abandoned for uninteresting storylines about Tupperware, betting on horses, and cock-blocking.

The show does a good job of putting together an impressive cast but that's where it ends. I will suffer through Season 1 because Nina Dobrev is a good actress and I want her to flourish but that's as far as I'm willing to go - which is all the way because this show isn't getting renewed.

Have you seen Fam? Did it accidentally make you laugh? Let us know.
