In which the most 'normal' relationship was between a thieving girl on the run and her scared mother who was going to turn her over to the cops.
If you've seen the first two seasons of Money Heist, then you already know how amazing the show is and there's really no need to dive into all that because what we're really here to talk about is how the show depicted a number of very screwed-up relationships.

First up on the list is a fan favorite
:

Tokyo and Rio

Tokyo starts off narrating the story and she boldly declares that the story is one of love. The age difference between these two is a major concern for me (she's 34 and he's 19) but he's legal so let's move on. Their relationship is so frail that Rio pretty much expects her to break up with him every time she opens her mouth and this relationship somehow got one of the best characters killed: Moscow.

Amazing that no one turned around and blamed Tokyo and Rio for Moscow's death because it was all their fault. Had they not been so eager to run into each other's arms and ram themselves to oblivion, maybe one of them could have said "hey maybe you should get everyone to quickly wear bulletproof vests before you open because they're very clearly going to want to shoot at a bunch of thieving kidnappers".

Berlin and Ariadna

There's a lot of online conversation about this relationship a 'smart' woman consciously initiated with a clearly dangerous man who has taken her hostage. Why would she do that, a thinking person might be prone to ask? Obviously, because she thought she was going to die and offering herself up to the person she considered to be in charge seemed like a smart plan. There are a number of loops in this plan of hers: the first being that she only succeeded in putting herself on Berlin's radar.

Though he later mentioned that she had a look in her eye that caught his attention, he never acted on it and would probably not have conversed with her had she not offered to do a sexy dance for him. The second loop is - what happens when power changes hands? Both Tokyo and Nairobi were in charge at some point. What if Tokyo decides to shoot her as some revenge for Berlin messing with Rio? What was she going to do then? Ask to dance for them too?

That's not a smart plan, it's just plain dumb.

This woman who offered herself up willingly comes back around and says Berlin raped her and she hates him. Well, the pickle here now is that the only thing she succeeded in doing was putting herself in harm's way because if she had tried to break up with him, he really might have shot her. Plus had this human not meddled, Berlin might have left the scene alive because his death was some kind of effort to redeem himself in the eyes of the woman who considered him a monster and a rapist.

Monica and Denver

Several times during this show, the relationship was referred to as "Stockholm Syndrome" and this could very well be the case considering that Denver is a part of the team that kidnapped Monica yet he risked his life to save hers thereby earning reluctant respect and affection from Monica. It could also be that Monica is simply a very gullible woman who would fall helplessly in love with any man who looks at her for longer than two Mississippis. Because how else do you justify her relationship with Arturito (who by the way ejaculated from just rubbing himself against her and pulling her hair)?

Money Heist calls out how messed up the relationship is by often referring to it as Stockholm Syndrome but does not admonish the relationship instead opting to make it aspirational and something to be proud of as Monica ends up with "Stockholm" as her chosen alias.

Denver and Moscow

The father and son duo who your heart often tugs at when you see them on screen. It's easy to see that they both love one another very much but their circumstances have made the relationship somewhat messed up. With the father coming out of prison only to find out his son owes money to some dangerous people and in order to pay it off, they both have to sign up for a dangerous and risky heist - one which the father, Moscow, ends up losing his life.

Another screwed-up relationship worthy of mention is Berlin and the Professor who seem to hate each other's guts, engage in weird pissing contests by constantly undermining and framing one another but also seem to share some type of deep bond as is sometimes depicted in their passionate embrace and gentle face-touching. At some point, I was convinced these two were ex-lovers.
