Lighthearted, entertaining and humorous, Honor Among Thieves is a fun watch for those familiar with the role-playing game and those with no D&D knowledge.

Dungeon & Dragons adaptation, Honor Among Thieves opens with two characters - the bard, Edgin (Chris Pine) and the barbarian with motherly instincts, Holga (Michelle Rodriguez). They have a small quest -- to escape from prison either by pleading their case or by hitching a ride on one of the panel members. Upon successfully escaping, it turns out they have another quest;  to rescue Edgin's daughter Kira (Chloe Coleman) from conman and former accomplice Forge Fitzwilliam (Hugh Grant). When they get to Forge's mansion, things aren't as they seem and their simple pick-up plan immediately turns into another quest.

You get the picture, it's one quest after another but it's not glaringly obvious as each of these quests are related and the next only arises after completing a quest.

The bard and barbarian's next big quest is to gather a team to defeat Forge and his Red Wizard, rescue Edgin's daughter and steal some loot from Forge. They have to gather a capable team for a heist so they pick up sorcerer and former accomplice, Simon (Justice Smith), shape-shifting druid Doric (Sophia Elis) and the paladin who has a thing they need to get another thing they need Xenk (Regé-Jean Page).

As they go through one quest after another to perform the great heist, it becomes apparent that Honor Among Thieves doesn't take itself too seriously as the leader of the ragtag team is winging his plans, the sorcerer who's to be the ace in the hole is very confidence-deprived and the paladin Xenk is a parody of fantasy heroes who are ridiculously straightlaced and fail to understand sarcasm, exaggerations or human figures of speech. As the gang rolls from one mini-quest to another, no time is wasted giving in-depth backstories on every location or artefact making it less tedious.

While the major quest seems to be to rescue Kira and defeat the big Red Wizard Sofina (Daisy Head), at the heart of this fantasy adventure is a man striving to do better and be better for his family -- and that's a plot almost anyone can get behind.

For viewers not caught up on the Dungeon & Dragons lore, Honor Among Thieves manages to be a fun ride filled with quests, humor, dungeons, various types of dragons (including chubby dragons) and a very strong, capable cast. For D&D fans, there's all that and ample easter eggs
