Imagine you’re standing in front of a series of lockers filled with memories of Stiles. Imagine you’re incredibly bored.

My take away from this episode is that the Final Season really wants all of us to be aboard the Stydia ship. Stydia moments were sprinkled all over this episode like confetti at a wedding. Okay we get it; Stydia is definitely happening this episode. We don’t all have to like it; we just have to accept it.

That said; let’s dive right into this episode.

On “Blitzkrieg” - where we had that big name reveal, Scott came to the conclusion that to open the portal into the Wild Hunt, they have to remember everything about Stiles. So far, it’s not going so well.

Malia, Lydia and Scott are trying to remember Stiles through “hypnotic regression”. Basically they plan to freeze (almost) to death and hope that in moments of near-death clarity, they will remember Stiles. Scott is the first one to go in and what’s his first memory? None other than that scene in Season 1 where Stiles was mad at Scott because he “kissed Lydia”.

That throwback was a subtle reminder that Jeff Davis has been saving Stydia for his last season. That scene showed a side to Scott (and Lydia) that we never got to see – ever again. Lydia willing to do anything to be the popular guy’s girlfriend and Scott willing to spite his friend because he was “full- moon high”.

After that very charming Stydia memory, Scott begins to drown in memories. Lydia says he’s “lost” and they have to guide him. Malia later discovers that it’s not just about remembering Stiles but remembering their “connection” to him. With this, she urges Scott to remember Stiles as his brother. The memory triggered was that emotional moment in Teen Wolf 3 x 6 ("Motel California")  where Stiles was willing to get burned to death with Scott. So Scott remembered Stiles. But nothing happened. No portal or rift was opened even though that may very well be the most emotional scene in all seasons of Teen Wolf. Guaranteed to make me cry every time.

Meanwhile, for some absurd reason, Liam is convinced that to have a fighting chance against the Ghost Riders, they need to let Theo out of his jail cell. But like his son, Sherriff Stilinksi is not about to trust pretty face Theo – not when he has a “station full of armed deputies”. There’s that tiny fact that all the Deputies are gone so the Sherriff has to consider letting Theo out – but not without getting something in return. What he wants is to remember his son so he asks Theo to tell him something
about Stiles. Theo grudgingly admits that “he {Stiles} was smart” – smart enough not to trust him.

While they are having this little recap session, Ghost Riders are coming – about 5 according to Theo’s count. Stilinski thinks 5 undead Ghost Riders against 1 very human sherriff and two half-assed teenage supernaturals is very good fighting odds. No surprise when he’s the first one to disappear. Goodbye Sherriff.

Does anyone else get a little excited when people disappear? If Radio Silence is anything to go by, then the disappeared get to reunite with their loved ones – the Sherriff gets to see Stiles.

In trying to escape the Ghost Riders, Liam and Theo have a couple of funny moments together, and though threats are exchanged, the two end up working together to (probably) kill three Ghost Riders. Apparently the Riders can be killed with either very sharp-knifelike-surgical equipment or their own gun. In a valiant moment, Theo goes against his selfish nature and sacrifices himself for Liam. Okay we don’t know for sure if he sacrificed himself. We just know that he threw Liam into the elevator and then we heard shots fired.

Does Theo remind anyone else of Peter Hale?

Next up to remember Stiles: Malia.

Malia goes into the strange cold vault and her important memory of Stiles is that scene in Teen Wolf 4 x 7 (“Weaponized”) where Team Scott was poisoned and Stiles promised to never leave Malia behind Malia made the connection and while there was a flash of light and some sound, nothing happened and we know why. It’s not because her heart rate was dropping but because Lydia is the one whose connection is most important in opening the portal. Not that of Stiles’ brother or his girlfriend who he gave back her humanity but his junior year crush. We must all compulsorily jump ship remember? We must all be Team Stydia.

Lydia can’t go into the freezing vault so they have to hypnotize her the old fashioned way – by lighting a candle and talking to her in a clam relaxed voice – which clearly Malia knows nothing of. We all know what Lydia is going to remember:

    a. What the hell is a Stiles?” – a statement the show has chosen to make the mantra of this season.
b. Her dance with Stiles
      c. That moment where she kissed Stiles to save him from a panic attack.

Memory C is what unsurprisingly brought Lydia to tears. She admits that “that’s when it happened” and we know the “it” is her supposed love for Stiles. She says she was the last one to see Stiles before he was taken and though he confessed his love for her, she “didn’t say it back”.

That’s the connection we’ve been waiting for. So no surprise when the whole place starts to rumble and a literal door appears. Lydia opens it and that is clearly the tunnel into the Wild Hunt that was shown in Radio Silence. And someone is standing in the middle of that bright light. Stiles maybe?

Questions

Stydia shippers, can you at least admit that Lydia is basically stealing her best friend’s boyfriend right in front of said best friend? That is legendary fork girl behavior.

Who’s excited to see Stiles in the next episode?
